Employee Satisfaction Survey: Avoid These 3 Mistakes

by Phillip Wilson

Employee satisfaction surveys are an important tool for a positive workplace. Here are 3 mistakes you should avoid to implement a successful employee satisfaction survey:

1. Survey Design:

Is it better to use an anonymous survey or one with open-ended questions? It depends on the situation. In some organizations it may be better to use an anonymous survey. Other times open-ended questions or even focus group discussions get superior feedback from employees. The key is to make sure you understand your work environment first and make sure the satisfaction survey format is sensitive to that environment.

2. Survey Administration:

Make sure employees are aware that the survey is coming, and then take care to make sure employees have time to complete the survey in a quiet area. Don't expect employees to complete the survey on their own time or at home. Response rates plummet and the quality of survey results can suffer.

3. Survey Action Planning:

This is the most critical part of any satisfaction survey - what you do with the results. The amount of information you get from your survey can be overwhelming. It is important to prioritize action items and successfully use teams of employees to help solve employee relations issues that come up.

There are numerous other considerations. You can find out more by downloading a free 53-page eBook Employee Satisfaction Survey Success. To download a copy of the free employee satisfaction survey eBook click here.
